Der eingetragene Verein „Aktuelle Musik und Musiktheaterproduktion Berlin“ (AMB) wurde 2017 gegründet.
2025 wurde THE WATS, ein neues interdisziplinäres Musiktheater von Stepha Schweiger, basierend auf Katherine Mansfield’s Kurzgeschichte „The Woman at the Store“ erfolgreich im Ballhaus Ost Berlin und im franz.K Reutlingen beim SONIC VISIONS Festival aufgeführt. Unterstützt wurde die Produktion durch den Hauptstadtkulturfonds (HKF) und die Losito • Kressmann-Zschach Foundation. Außerdem zeigte die neuseeländische Botschaft in Berlin Interesse und Hilfsbereitschaft. Die Katherine Mansfield Society lud Stepha Schweiger ein, im Juli 2025 anlässlich der bevorstehenden Premiere im Rahmen des Katherine-Mansfield-Kongresses an der Universität Birmingham (Großbritannien) einen Vortrag über THE WATS zu halten.
The registered association “Aktuelle Musik und Musiktheaterproduktion Berlin” (AMB) was established in Berlin in 2017.
In 2025, THE WATS, a new interdisciplinary music theatre piece by Stepha Schweiger based on Katherine Mansfield’s short story “The Woman at the Store”, was successfully performed at the Ballhaus Ost in Berlin and at the franz.K in Reutlingen as part of the SONIC VISIONS Festival. The production was supported by the Capital City Cultural Fund (HKF) and the Losito • Kressmann-Zschach Foundation. The New Zealand Embassy in Berlin also expressed its interest and willingness to assist. The Katherine Mansfield Society invited Stepha Schweiger to give a lecture on THE WATS in July 2025, to mark the forthcoming premiere during the Katherine Mansfield Congress at the University of Birmingham, UK.

Neues interdisziplinäres Musiktheaterwerk
A new interdisciplinary music theatre
Aktuell wird die Studioeinspielung des Musiktheaters „The Mark on the Wall“ für den CD-Release vorbereitet. Weiter arbeitete der Verein an der Realisierung eines neuen Musiktheaters. Zur Unterstützung der kompositorischen Arbeit erhielt die Komponistin Stepha Schweiger in 2022/2023 Stipendien des Musikfonds und des Berliner Senats.
Die Berliner Komponistin und Musikerin Stepha Schweiger präsentiert mit THE WATS ein neues, genreübergreifendes Musiktheater.
Basierend auf der Kurzgeschichte „The Woman at the Store“ von Katherine Mansfield (1888–1923), wurde das Stück am 2. Oktober 2025 in Berlin uraufgeführt.
Gefördert ist das Projekt vom Hauptstadtkulturfonds (HKF), der Losito • Kressmann-Zschach Foundation und u. a. unterstützt durch die Neuseeländische Botschaft in Deutschland.
Die Berlin-Aufführungen waren von 02.-05. Oktober 2025 im Ballhaus Ost Berlin. Ein Gastspiel fand am 14. November 2025 beim SONIC VISIONS Festival in Reutlingen statt.
The studio recording of the music theatre “The Mark on the Wall“ is currently being prepared for CD release. Furthermore, the association was working on the staging of a new music theatre THE WATS. To support the composition of the new music theatre production, its composer Stepha Schweiger was awarded state-funded grants from the German Musikfonds in 2022 and the Berlin Senate in 2023.
The Berlin-based composer and musician Stepha Schweiger presents THE WATS, a new cross-genre work of music theatre.
The piece, an implementation of Katherine Mansfield’s (1888–1923) short story ‘The Woman at the Store’, premiered on October 2, 2025 in Berlin.
The project is funded by the Capital Cultural Fund (HKF), the Losito • Kressmann-Zschach Foundation and supported, among others, by the New Zealand Embassy in Germany.
The Berlin performances were from October 2 till October 5, 2025, at Ballhaus Ost Berlin. A guest stage performance of THE WATS was held on November 14, 2025, at the SONIC VISIONS Festival in Reutlingen.
